The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier are medium sized dogs with a smooth and silky single coat. The coats can be deceiving and can mat very easily as they are very dense. Special care should be taken to brush all the way to the skin, with the correct brush. The coats are typically black at birth and lighten by age 2 or sooner. Full service professional grooming is recommended at least every 3 weeks.

 If home maintenance is done properly; full service grooming is recommended every 4 weeks, if not professional grooming is recommended at least every 1-2 weeks.
